Is this legal? Yes. The State of Maryland and Anne Arundel County allow bona-fide non-profit organizations to conduct raffles for the benefit of the non-profit. All net proceeds will benefit We Care and Friends, an Annapolis, MD based non-profit organized to provide long-term drug and alcohol rehabilitation for those in need. www.wecareandfriends.com

What if my mortgage payoff is less than $400,000.00? If your mortgage payoff is less than $400,000.00, the remaining amount will be issued to the winner in a lump sum payment. For example, if your current mortgage payoff is $275,000.00, your mortgage will be paid off and you will receive a lump sum payment of $125,000.00 ($400,000.00 - $275,000.00 = $125,000.00). This is in addition to the $150,000.00 that the Grand Prize winner will also receive.

What taxes will the winner have to pay? The winner will be issued a W2G in the amount of the value of the Prize: Grand Prize $550,000.00, Second prize $30,000.00. Please consult your tax advisor for specific tax questions and amounts.

Do you have to be present to win? No. We will notify the winner by phone, email and registered mail. We will also be posting the winners on the website within a few hours of the drawing and a video of the drawing shortly thereafter.

What is an “early bird” drawing? Early Bird drawings are weekly $500.00 drawings. Everyone who purchases tickets will be entered into each subsequent early bird drawing. Drawing dates will be posted on the site. Early bird drawing winners will still be eligible for the Grand and Second prizes.

How many tickets will be sold? A maximum of 20,000 tickets will be sold. If less than 16,000 tickets are sold, we will have a consolation drawing with the prize being 60% of all ticket revenue, and the current Grand Prize and Second Prize will not be awarded. Nearly 24,000 tickets were sold in the 2009 We Care and Friends House Raffle.
